Patio Covering, Keeping up the Cabana in Phoenix

At Gryphon Roofing we specialize in commercial and residential roofing projects, but we also handle renovations and unique projects such as patio coverings. Spending time beneath the scorching Arizona sun in the summer can be a hit or miss. If you’re outside digging a ditch, then chances are you will curse your existence and even consider jumping into the hole you are digging. However, if you are outside by the pool, shaded by patio covering while sipping cocktails, Arizona suddenly becomes paradiso.

A Giant Sombrero

The word sombrero comes from the Latin sombre, which means “shade.” Essentially, the Mexican sombrero is a hat that doubles as a shading device. That is why residents of Arizona will notice that working class natives almost always wear sombreros when tilling the soil in the summer. Although cocktails, swimming and fun is a far cry from digging up the hard desert earth, a sombrero should also be worn. But it needs to be stylish. Let’s face it the sombrero is a bit oafish, and its aesthetic appeal is nothing compared to its practicality. That is why it’s best to install patio covering as an alternative option to the sombrero.

How to Properly Play on the Patio

While that sun is beaming down on you, scorching and hot, you ought to take a dip in the pool as a respite from the inhospitable climate of the desert. After resurfacing from the crystal clear water of the pool, step out on the patio forgoing the use of a towel to dry yourself off—in Arizona it takes about 10 minutes to dry off in the summer. Walk underneath your patio covering, sit down upon your patio furniture, and enjoy the luxury of natural air conditioning. If you are fortunate enough for a cool breeze to blow through, than you are certainly one step away from paradise, and if you installed misters on your patio then you’re there.
