The Importance of Attic Ventilation

The attic is a neglected area of the home. We at Gryphon Roofing feel a great degree of sympathy for it. People throw their useless belongings into the attic without any care or thought for the space itself. But of course, the attic is not without a sense of vengeance. Failing to provide the care and support your attic needs can result in mold, moths, and damaged property. Thankfully, there is a simple solution to attic care: attic ventilation.

Dangers of Bad Ventilation

Due to humidity, moisture naturally infiltrates the attic and all that it houses. Mildew and mold are not uncommon in attic life. Moreover, this moisture can get stuck under your roof, making it fragile and vulnerable to cracking. But thankfully, proper roof ventilation can deter these scenarios from occurring.

Attic Vent Options

Ridge Vents: Ridge vents are the most obvious solution for protecting your attic from deleterious pathogens. Basically, their name describes the function. Ridge vents are installed along the ridge of the roof. They allow air to flow in and out of the attic, and thus, prevent against the buildup of mildew and mold.

Soffit Vents: Another option is soffit vents. The word soffit comes from the French "soffite" and the Latin "suffigere", which means to fix underneath. Basically, soffit vents are installed underneath the ridge of your attic, to allow the free flow of air. They also provide the unique advantage of concealing the vent itself. So basically, your roof looks better.

Protect Your Attic

Historically, the attic has been given a bad rep. It should not, however. It provides convenient storage space for your belongings or unwelcomed family members. At Gryphon Roofing, we protect every nook and cranny of the house. The roof is indeed a guardian of the elements, and without it, no house could be properly called a home.
